The brothers were born and raised in the Mayview area, northwest of Prince Albert, Sask. The preferred occupations of all three Anderson brothers were as hunters, trappers and woodsmen. They were all accomplished musicians, playing by ear. Orin and Byron between them played banjo, guitar, violin and piano, and Edwin excelled on the violin. They entertained at dances and other functions. Edwin’s ear was so finely tuned that it was said that he would stop the band from playing in mid-performance if he heard an instrument out of tune, and wouldn’t recommence playing until it had been retuned.
