ANNIE LOUISE DEAN née COLLINS

Annie Louise Collins was born on 17 January 1895 in Saskatchewan, Canada to George Henry Collins (1869-1942) & Annie Furby (1875-1939). Annie had one brother, Herbert Percival (1896-1917) and three sisters, Mabel Hester (1899-1928), Phyllis (1907-1996) & Ruth Georgia (b 1917). Louise lived on the family farm at Saltcoats, Saskatchewan until she married Zarah Willis Dean on 1 October 1914 in Yorktown. Zarah had been born on 6 February 1884 in Durham, Ontario to Robert Johnson Dean (1852-1919) & Elizabeth Strong (1850-1925). Zarah had four brothers, Ezra Howie (b 1882), Sidney Elwin (b 1885), Frederick Winford (1887-1961) & Albert Victor (1892-1920).

After their marriage Zarah & Louise moved to Saskatoon and lived at 604 Broadway Ave until 1920. Zarah was an inspector/agent for Hartford Insurance Co for many years. In 1925, they left Saskatoon for Calgary, living at 225 38th Ave W. Zarah died between 1953 & 1963. Louise died on 14 February 1987.

Louise’s brother, Percival enlisted in the CEF on 23 September 1916 in the Machine Gun Regiment. He was posted overseas and married Lily Colley in Uckfield, Sussex, England in March 1917. Percival was serving as lieutenant near Passchendaele in Belgium when he was fatally wounded on 30 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium. Percival & Lily had a daughter, Eileen Ruth born on 9 December 1917 in Basingstoke, England. Eileen died at two weeks, on 25 December.
