AITCHISON and MYERS FAMILY
James William Thompson Aitchison (b 3 April 1883) and David Pollock Aitchison (b 14 June 1886) were born in Glasgow & Aberdeen, Scotland respectively to James Aitchison (b 1855) and Mary Hodge Harley (1858-1942). James immigrated to Canada in 1905 aboard SS ‘Pretorian’ and David came out with his mother in 1906 aboard SS ‘Corinthian’, possibly following the death of James Sr.
James married Harriet (Hattie) Matilda Nixon in 1913 and they had three children, George, James and Mary. James Sr worked as a traveler for RJ Whitla. The family was living at 1008 Melrose Ave, Saskatoon in 1916, had moved to 203 25th St E by 1918 and on to 612 Duke St by 1921. Harriet died in 1933 and James Sr subsequently married Mae Martha Montgomery (b 8 May 1881, USA). James Sr and Mae were living in British Columbia at the times of their deaths in 1969 and 1966, respectively.
David worked initially as a seaman and later as a traveler in dry goods. By 1916 he was married with a daughter, Margaret, who was born in 1912. The family of his wife, Edna Viola Myers, is discussed below. The Aitchison family lived at 314 25th St E in Saskatoon before moving to the US in the 1930's and back to British Columbia where David died in 1955 and Edna in 1957.
Joseph Myers was born on 1 January 1854 in the USA to Isaac Myers and Mary. He was married to Emma Vosper on 15 February 1876 in Exeter, Huron, Ontario. She was born on 27 December 1857 in Cobourg, Northumberland, Ontario to George Vosper (1817-1889) and Phillipa (1827-1899). He had three children from this marriage: Eurith Lillian (1876-1928), Frederick (1878-1881) and Joseph Allan (1883-1958). In 1881, Joseph and his family were living with his wife's parents in Usborne Township, Huron, Ontario. Emma died on 2 May 1883 in Middlesex, Ontario. In 1891 his children were lodging in the home of Emma's sister, Catherine Sanders in Middlesex. In 1901 Joseph Allan was still living with his aunt and was listed as an adopted son.
Joseph Sr married Sarah S Fraser on 29 April 1885 in Elgin, Ontario. She was born on 20 November 1864 in Sparta, Elgin, Ontario to William Hilton Fraser (b 1838) and Permillia Moore (1840-1893). Her siblings were: Hannah (1859-1934), Lucinda (1861-1932), Emma C (1862-1926), Herbert (1866-1937) and George (b 1869).
Joseph and Sarah had two children: Edna Viola, born on 26 May 1887 in Yarmouth, Elgin, Ontario and Claude Moore (1895-1913). In 1891 the Myers family lived in Southwold and in 1911, St Thomas, Elgin, Ontario. From at least 1914 to 1921 they lived at 319 25th St East in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On 2 February 1913, Claude died and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. In 1921 only Sarah was enumerated at the 25th St address. In the Henderson Directories, Joseph was listed as a farmer until 1925. In later years he worked for the Saskatoon Sanatorium as a cleaner and, later, as an orderly. Joseph and Sarah joined 3rd Ave Methodist Church in 1914. They lived at various addresses in Saskatoon until they moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in about 1935. They both died in Vancouver, Joseph on 24 May 1937 and Sarah on 6 May 1941. They were buried in Ocean View Burial Park.
